The real feature is stability

Coding agents are expensive to run. Pricing pressure is not going away. None of this means companies can promise static economics forever.

But the category problem is bigger than cost. AI developer tools still have unstable norms. Companies are not just competing on model quality or UX. They are also asking users to believe that the rules of engagement will stay coherent long enough to matter.

That is where trust stops being a branding layer and becomes part of the product itself. A tool people trust gets woven into daily work. A tool they do not trust gets admired, sampled, compared, and kept one careful step away from anything too important.

This is why the Claude Code episode matters even if it blows over quickly. It revealed how little slack this market has for muddled pricing signals and half-explained changes.

The winning AI developer tool will not just be the one that feels smartest in a benchmark or most impressive in a demo. It will be the one that makes developers feel they can stop watching the company quite so nervously.

That is the bar now. Not just capability. Composure. If users think they need to keep one eye on your pricing page at all times, you do not have trust. You have traffic.
